What Is Essential? Round 2

My citric acid order arrived, so it's time for round two of bath bombs! I used this recipe, with my own essential oil blend and no coloring. Another blog I read suggested spraying the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients while mixing in order to avoid activating the citric acid, which will fizz on contact with the bath water.

I know I don't have much room to complain about the cold here in southern CA, but the coconut oil was so cold, scraping a few tablespoons into the egg pan was like scraping hardened wax off the stove! And you know I've done my fair share of that task.

I sifted all the dry ingredients through my flour sifter to avoid lumps and continued to churn the mixture with one hand while spraying on the wet ingredients with the other. By the last teaspoon or so, I had to take the spray top off and dribble the rest in. The consistency was just right this time!

The batch filled all but one of the rose molds, which I covered with a silicon baking sheet and flipped. With just a little tugging top to bottom and left to right, they all came out in tact on the first try!

Maybe bath bombs aren't a waste of time after all. I think if I were to try these again, I would replace the water with rose water and look into natural coloring. Beets, maybe?

The fizz from the citric acid propels the bath bomb through the water and back up to the surface. It's pretty fun to watch.
