Hearts or Circles?
A Michael's flyer of heart shape cut-out coupons came in the mail last week to reel customers into their stores around Valentine's Day. I feel like if you're not shopping there with a coupon, you probably don't belong there. Let me give an example. The closest Michael's to my house happens to be the oddest setting that anyone has chosen to hit on me. We both were looking over the sale bins set outside like pumpkins outside a grocery store. His lead-in was, "Look at all these incredible deals..." And that's when I knew he didn't belong there because they were, in fact, terrible deals, but there was nothing else to look at while waiting for my ride. Michael's is all about marked-up prices that make you feel good about getting them for 40-50% off. Items pushed out into the street with a price tag still attached should be ignored at all cost(s). It would be a favor just to carry them the rest of the way to the dumpster.
Regardless, Michael's remains an exciting destination for me, and I went in this time knowing exactly what I wanted: a punch lever. I debated over getting the heart shaped lever, but then decided on the 1.5 inch circle punch lever, and almost made it out with just that and my 50% off one full-price item coupon. But then the bins in the check-out line got to me. I picked up two bottles of glitter glue on sale, knowing they would come in handy for the same project.
I used to make these paper ornaments by tracing around a silver dollar on paper and then cutting the circles out individually with scissors. The punch lever significantly speeds the process with a more precise result. It's been a great way to use up scraps of paper left over from the box making. These are most commonly strung up as Christmas ornaments, but I also like to use them as center pieces in a bowl any time of year.
Meanwhile the candle project continues on with a box of old candlesticks my mom sent, from which I've found I can reuse the wicks as well as the wax!
One of my estate finds has become my candle supply bin, and sits directly over my stove. |
Love those little ornaments! So very pretty.
